This diptych addresses the increase of domestic violence during the time of the pandemic.
To stay at home, work from home and reduce contact with the outside world is the key instrument to fight the Pandemic and to protect us from harm. Home should be a place of safety and ideally a place of peace, happiness for ourselves and our family. A place where we can be who we are. However, for millions of women and children home is a place of abuse and violence. The place which is supposed to be a shelter is for many a prison and a place of suffering, helplessness and domination. The long phases of lockdown and the financial and emotional stress caused by the pandemic is making the situation even worse. My diptych addresses the alarming surge in domestic violence and aims to bring this topic from “behind closed doors” into the public conscience.
